The ski season never really ends at Zermatt, as the glacier slopes are open every day, year round, weather permitting; but the resort does still divide its opening in to ‘winter’ and ‘summer’ seasons, and winter comes to an end this weekend, after which skiing and boarding will be limited to the glacier slopes, including, for a few more weeks, the run over to Cervinia in Italy.
Currently though around 115km of piste remains open with the snow as deep as 3.2 metres up top, which should hopefully see the area through the summer.
In fact some snow reporting agencies are even reporting a ‘powder alarm’ possibility for Zermatt on Monday with more than 320cm of fresh snow expected to fall on the last day of April.
