An unusual snow report for Zermatt today as very strong winds are hitting the area and it is largely closed to snowsports, and probably will be again tomorrow with conditions clearing towards the weekend.
Essentially it hasn’t stopped snowing much since Christmas and more heavy snow is expected over the next 48 hours (another 20cm was reported in the last 24 hours) but the storm is also bringing severe temperature fluctuations as well as the wind and snow so there may be heavy rain during brief warm spells as well, unfortunately.
Once it all blows over and the avalanche danger diminishes skiers should be able to enjoy fairly epic conditions as almost all runs and lifts were open across the area before the storm hit with base depths of 50-180cm.
