Zermatt Bergbahnen, the famous Swiss resort’s lift company, has announced improvements to its Skiguide Zermatt app which launched last winter.
New for 2017 is “User Perspective BETA”, which the company says is a mixed-reality feature that:
“…fuses reality and virtuality, allowing users to immerse themselves completely in the 3D map and experience their surroundings as a ‘low-poly world’, generated specially for the app.”
The mixed-reality approach offers improved navigation in the ski area and is an even more convenient way of providing users with information about their immediate surroundings, Zermatt Bergbahnen says.
The new facility adds to the existing features designed to help users find their way in the international ski area with pinpoint accuracy using GPS navigation.
The intuitive route finder shows users how to reach their favourite mountain restaurant from any location in the ski area and how long they will need to get there using the lifts and pistes currently open, taking into account the level of ability entered in the personal settings.
All map content, such as lifts, pistes, restaurants and points of interests, is interactive, and the app also has an online ticketing facility, a personalized graph showing elevation change, current webcam views and weather outlook as well as detailed avalanche hazard levels and other safety alerts.
The app.matterhornparadise.ch website offers a full overview of the range of built-in functions and a link to the App Store and Google Play where it is available free of charge for iOS and Android devices respectively.
