It has been a snowy week in the Alps and is set to get snowier still over the next 48 hours (January 13-15) with the biggest snowfall forecast since the unprecedented pre-season big dump in early November.
Sadly it hasn’t snowed too much since then, although one of the few decent snowfalls over the past few months there has been followed Italy’s North Western border and ski areas like Monterosa and the Milky Way have had some of the best conditions in Europe all season so far with bases up to 2m. Prato Nevoso, one of the resorts that did well from snow just before Christmas, is pictured above. Here’s a video from Cervinia:
They’re set to get dumped on again with 50cm or so of fresh snow forecast. The less good news though is that the Dolomites look to be missing out over the next few days when most of Europe’s gets a lot of snow, and the Dolomites really need snow as although there are thousands of kilometres of piste open, it’s all down to brilliant snowmaking efforts by the resorts and the snow is only a few inches deep. The good news is there is now snow in the forecast for the Dolomites at least by this time next week, which will hopefully start to transform things.
