Italy did get the best of what snow there was in December with some healthy snowfalls in the West of the country before Christmas on top of November snowfalls which left snow lying up to 2m deep before the season started.

The Dolomites (pictured top) have seen much less fresh snow and like most of Europe Italy as a whole saw little snow between mid-November and this week with the weather finally changing and snow now starting to arrive.

Unfortunately, currently, it looks like the biggest snowfalls will pass to the north but Western Italy should get up to 30cm (The La Thuile -La Rosiere cross-border Italy-France area is pictured above) and the Dolomites about 15cm in the next few days, all being well.

Most Italian ski runs are open though, thanks in good part to snowmaking.
