There’s been fresh snow in Austria over the past 24 hours with several ski areas reporting a foot (30cm) or even 16 inches/40cm of fresh snow since yesterday.

Resorts in Salzburgerland, Lower and Upper Austria reported the most snow with Obertauern, Flachau (video below) and Filzmoos amongst those getting new snow.
World Cup ski racing at Semmering was almost cancelled due to blizzard like conditions and low visibility.

The snow conditions are very varied across the country however with many of the country’s top resorts in Tirol continuing to see sunny weather and no fresh snow. Pistes are mostly in good shape thanks to snowmaking, there’s just little or no off-piste to be had.
“Ischgl has some of the best cover of any non-glacial resort in Austria at the moment,” said one skier who chose Ischgl for his family Christmas break.
“Perfect packed snow and not a pebble or a patch in sight. All valley runs open with good cover. And we’ve had a 5-10cm top up, too. Ischgl pistes are perfect.”
Ischgl’s ski hub of Idalp has a 40cm snow base and the resort’s 1100 snow cannons and skilled grooming are keeping the pistes in great shape. The resort is pictured top.
More unsettled weather is expected across Austria in the coming week with more widespread snowfall likely.
