It has been a snowy few days in Switzerland with powder alarms for 20cm or more of snow being issued by resorts across the country daily since last Wednesday. Some have had more than 60cm (two feet) of fresh snow in the last week and Engelberg reports 145cm.
Engelberg (below) now has a 7.4m base – still the deepest in the world and one of the deepest ever reported in the Alps.
Resorts across the country have been posting impressive fresh snow totals but Champery, Engelberg, Laax, Leukerbad and Saas Fee are amongst those publishing powder alarms – some reporting up to 30cm (a foot) of fresh snow in 24 hours.
The fact that bases are continuing to grow in the Swiss Alps as we enter April, where they were already posting the deepest in the world, is remarkable.
