The opening of a planned new ski resort in BC, Canada, won’t happen until at least 2020, say developers Valemount Glacier Destinations Ltd.
“We are working towards completing the financing process this year and, depending on the construction window, starting survey work as soon as possible,” Tommaso Oberti, vice-president of the Pheidias Group of Companies which is behind the project told local media.
The resort, which is to be located close to the border with Alberta and west of Jasper’s Marmot Basin ski area in the east of BC, was given final government permission for construction in summer 2016 and had originally been slated to open this Christmas.
At build-out, in the late 2020s, the resort is expected to provide access to year-round glacier skiing with the highest such access to glaciers in North America and the biggest lift served-vertical drop.
Since the resort’s go ahead was given, property values in the area are reported to have risen by a third.
