Snowshoeing and Stargazing – Simplon

Two magical experiences in one – enjoy the quiet beauty of the mountains away from the bustle of the ski area with a snowshoe walk up to the astronomical observatory at the Simplon Pass. Here, you will have a chance to view the incredible star-filled night’s sky at an altitude of 2000m.

Glacier Caves

In the Valais areas of Zinal, Zermatt and Saas-Fee, you can view these beautiful natural caves, carved out by rives of meltwater flowing under the glaciers. An experience like no other, learn about the science of glaciers at Zermatt’s spectacular Glacier Palace or explore the world’s largest ice pavilion in Saas-Fee.

Carnival

In Switzerland, traditions of carnival are alive and thriving, especially in the Valais region, where the local people love a good party! Towns and villages often organise their own carnivals throughout the year, where fancy dress, music and unique traditions are wonderful to watch and visitors can also witness other ancient and fascinating secular traditions linked to this festivity.

Ice Skating

In Valais, there are many opportunities for ice skating, an activity that can be the perfect alternative to skiing or snowboarding. Whether you want to amp up your adrenaline with a game of ice hockey or simply enjoy the ice at a more leisurely pace, ice rinks are a lot of fun for the whole family. Some ice rinks even offer curling or ice discos!

Thermal Baths

Relax and rejuvinate after a day’s skiing with some of Valais’ most stunning thermal baths. Soak in hot water from the depths of the Valais mountains, allowing the baths’ healing reputation to relax your muscles and stimulate your circulation. There’s no better way to top off a day on the slopes than to enjoy a special evening view of the mountains from an outdoor thermal bath.

Dog Sledding

A magical way to enjoy the gorgeous snowy scenery without your skis, this is a very special winter experience for the whole family. Glide through the winter landscape on a sled pulled by a team of huskies, with the fresh mountain air and enthusiasm of the sled dogs sure to put a smile on your face!

Paragliding & Hang Gliding

For the ultimate adrenaline inducing adventure, fly over the slopes of Valais, soaking in the views from a paraglider or hang glider. You’ll get a truly unique birds-eye look at this mountain landscape, with specially trained pilots on hand to ensure you have the best possible experience.

Tobogganing

One of the most entertaining mountain activities that the whole family can enjoy together, Valais has a multitude of opportunities for tobogganing. You can easily hire toboggans from the valley stations and head up on the lifts to secured, winding runs that take you for kilometres through these awesome landscapes. This might be the most fun you have all week!
