Val Gardena in the Italian Dolomites will open what the resort says will be Italy’s first-ever heated 8 Seater chairlift.
The chairlift, an eight-seater with a price tag of €8m marks a dramatic upgrade of the area’s 30-year-old button lift Gran Paradiso on Piz Sella.
The chairlift will be able to carry 2,200 people per hour, almost two and a half times as many as the old drag lift, and will be slightly longer so will take skiers and boarders right up to Passo Sella as well as providing a direct connection to the Sellaronda’s clockwise (green) route.
The 1km long lift will take 3 minutes 21 seconds and rise 231m in altitude and Val Gardena has chosen a striking blue for the seats.
“Our excellent service and the impressive backdrop of the Val Gardena mountainscape are once again leading the way,” said Tourist Director Guenther Pitscheider.
