“Faster, more comfortable, safer and with a lower environmental impact, the replacement of the Vallon gondola in 2024 adheres to Val d’Isère stringent demands in terms of customer satisfaction and environmental impact,” a resort spokesperson said.

The Pisaillas sectors first became accessible In 1972 with the installation of the Col drag lift. Then in 1986, the Vallon TCD6 gondola was installed to improve access to the high altitude slopes, and had operated for the 38 years since.

The new gondola cabins can each carry 10 people, offers panoramic views and space, with the ascent time cut to just 6.5 minutes to reach 3,185 metres.

“Very high altitude in very little time,” the spokesperson added.

The new lift was carefully installed to limit impact on the natural area, following the path of the existing lift in order to preserve the local wildlife and plants. The 30 pylons from the old lift were dismantled with the new lift requiring far fewer, and all of the protected flowers present on the project site were transplanted.
