US Ski Area Announces Summer Ski Re-Opening

After a very snowy winter 2015-16 which has seen up to 21m of snowfall at some West Coast US ski areas several resorts are still open for skiing in to the latter half of May, including Mammoth and Squaw Valley in California, Whistler and Sunshine in Canada, Arapahoe Basin in Colorado and Snowbird in Utah.

One ski area in Washington State which ended its season three weeks ago on Sunday, April 17th has however announced plans to re-open for weekend skiing in June and possibly July – depending on how well the snow lasts.

“We are excited to continue skiing after some spring cleaning and maintenance projects are complete (conditions permitting),” a statement from Crystal Mountain reads, and continues “The awesome winter snow-pack should allow for some fantastic spring skiing, starting Memorial Day weekend, May 28-30.”

The centre’s Mt. Rainier Gondola will provide access to Green Valley for intermediate and advanced skiing and snowboarding only.

Skiing will continue as long as conditions allow, Crystal Mountain says, with operations between 8am and 2:30pm.
