A family-run chalet operator in the French ski village of Les Gets has gone from strength to strength, even though it was set up just before the financial crash of 2008.
Starting business just as Europe’s ski industry saw its worst season for several decades, and in one which was followed by several more seasons of further decline could have been (and was) the death knell for some ski businesses, but Chalets1066 have just got better and better.
From starting with just three properties, and based out of Chalet Hastings (hence the name for the business) the company is probably now the largest operator specialising exclusively in Les Gets, managing 20 chalets and apartments in the traditional Portes du Soleil resort. The accommodation ranges from small to six bedrooms and from value to luxury, and both fully catered and self-catered is available.
Chalets1066’s formula is simply to provide an honest, good-quality service at a good price and to have a strong team in place in Les Gets.
Les Gets itself offers extensive, high-value skiing with direct access to the huge Portes du Soleil ski area with 640km of slopes, and it is just a 1-hour drive from Geneva airport.
In the fully catered chalet, the focus is on good food, good service and good value. The wine is specially selected for the chalet and special dietary requirements are easily catered for. Last year they won a TripAdvisor Excellence Award.
In the self-catered chalets and apartments, there is a range of optional services, like fresh bread and croissants delivery, ski pass delivery and ski equipment delivery and fitting in your chalet. Staff are also available in the event of any problems; for example, if a washing machine breaks down on a Saturday evening, you don’t need to call a chalet owner in the UK to resolve the problem as Chalets1066 have capable staff on hand in resort, and they will usually come out the same evening.
Chalets1066 Founder Susan Nathan remains resident in Les Gets for the ski season, and many of the chalets are a short walk from her chalet. Susan is helped by family members who each bring rich experience from the wider world, and there is also a very strong team of staff in place in Les Gets. Susan is always available to ensure each client’s holiday is a great success.
It all bodes well for the future, and with the ski industry now seemingly in renaissance, Chalets1066 look set to build on their success even further. For more details, go to chalets1066.com
