Las Vegas, Nevada, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. It’s become such a hub for entertainment, hotels, and sports now that when you go on a trip to Sin City, there’s a good chance that you’ll actually be venturing out of Las Vegas and into Paradise. Everywhere you go, there’s something incredible to do, but the real question here is: can you go skiing in Las Vegas, and if not, where’s the closest resort?

They say that you can find just about anything and everything in Las Vegas, and when you go there, it’s tough to fault the sentiment. Naturally, tourists gravitate to The Strip, with the long road running through Paradise becoming so popular that many of its venues have become household names. Caesars Palace, The Bellagio, MGM Grand, and Bally’s are all world-renowned names – even if one of them has had a rebranding.
That one would be Bally’s. The legendary venue home to some of the greatest experiences on The Strip became Horseshoe Las Vegas after its official March 2023 ceremony. Of course, the Bally’s brand lives on far beyond The Strip. Online, you’ll find Bally Casino nestled in amongst the most highly regarded online casinos of the King Casino Bonus rankings, offering free spins to new members in countries as far flung as the UK.
What is now Horseshoe Las Vegas is one of the many reasons why people think you can experience anything in Sin City. Within the resort, you’ll find the Real Bodies exhibit, Twilight Zone Mini Golf, a dinosaur safari, and even a Game of Thrones exhibit. Beyond what was Bally’s, you can see the Seven Magic Mountains, brave the Haunted Museum, and explore the National Atomic Testing Museum, all in Las Vegas. Skiing, however, isn’t on the menu.
Plans for Indoor Skiing Fell Flat

Way back in September 2006, a proposal to build a new Indoor Sky Dome in Las Vegas made headlines. Backed by a group of executives that once worked for the likes of Disney and Universal Studios, it would have added yet another element of entertainment to the city that looks on to the desert. The proposal didn’t go much further than the ideas stage, but with indoor skiing venues popping up across Europe, perhaps one day Sin City will get one.
In its place, there are always the natural skiing slopes to the northwest. Lee Canyon is easily the most popular ski resort for those who’re visiting Las Vegas and fancy a run down the slopes. It sits just 35 miles northwest of the city, which is quite remarkable to see in the winter given the stereotypically dry surroundings of Sin City. Another fine choice, which is a fair bit further away, is Brian Head Resort.
A good three hours away by car from Downtown Las Vegas, but only 40 minutes from Cedar City Regional Airport, you’ll find a more affordable resort here than at Lee Canyon – which makes sense given Lee Canyon’s proximity to Las Vegas. It’s a very small town, but thrives on being cheaper for skiing and lodging, while also just having a much more down-to-earth and relaxed atmosphere. That said, it is over in Utah.
So, the closest ski resort to Las Vegas is Lee Canyon, which is perfectly situated and suited to welcoming tourists from The Strip. For something a bit more laid-back, a trip to Brian Head Resort might be worthwhile.
