Switzerland Snow Report and Forecast to 27th January 2018

Patrick Thorne

22 Jan 18

It’s difficult to remember a month like it in Switzerland.  The snowfall has been exceptional with up to 3.3m reported in the past week.

The country’s resorts have the deepest bases in the world – and some of the deepest in the Alps for years – with Crans Montana claiming the biggest total at 6.5m, Engelberg at 625cm – both more than 20 feet.

All the snow means that if it ever stops snowing (and the rest of this week is looking calmer) conditions are going to be great.

But in the short term ski areas are totally – or mostly – closed due to the maximum extreme avalanche danger.

In some cases – Andermatt, Saas Fee, Wengen and Zermatt – road and rail links to ski areas are closed too.
