Famous Swiss ski resort Crans Montana has a new activity offer this coming winter: guided yak hikes.

The peaceful winter hikes with these magnificent animals allows guests the chance to discover the pristine environments of the plateau and walk in the snow accompanied by the sound of the cowbells of these Tibetan cattle.

The most challenging tour, with a length of 10.4 km, involves a full day along forest trails. A unique winter experience, combining nature, knowledge of these peaceful animals, silence and relaxation. The itinerary, starting from Chermignon d’en Haut, leads to the discovery of frozen lakes and ponds via Miriouges, les Briesses and la Moubra.

This activity is open to everyone from 10 years of age, provided they have a minimum level of fitness, and is offered at CHF 280 for 2 persons (CHF 90 for each additional participant), including lunch. Half-day yak treks are also organised, along a shorter 4.9 km route.

The Crans-Montana ski resort boasts no less than 140 km of ski slopes served by modern ski lifts. From the Plaine Morte glacier, at 3,000 m, to the centre of the village, at 1,500 m, you can discover the great variety of pistes for all levels, with a breathtaking panorama thanks to the crown of peaks exceeding 4,000 m.

The Yak Hikes are part of an ever-growing list of attractions for families. Also new this year, the resort’s snowpark now caters to all levels, with new features like the Easy Snowpark and Brizzly Bear Slope for families. There’s also a new treasure hunt invites families to help Bibi the Marmot solve mysteries, alongside a new boardercross course for kids.

One major attraction is the magical Lantern Path around one of the resort’s frozen lakes which enchants visitors with lights, concerts, and interactive art inspired by nature.

“During the winter of 2024/2025, the Lantern Trail will be dedicated to ‘Movement’, a theme that will be evoked through the dance of bodies and the breath of nature and will highlight various installations to be discovered along the trail. Each unique work will invite visitors to be enchanted by its beauty, while offering interactive moments,” a Crans Montana spokesperson explained.

The Lantern Path opens from December 6th.
