The snowstorms have cleared and revealed Superheroes on the sunny, snowy slopes of Ischgl, in the Tirol.
Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman will preside over Ischgl until the Spring thaw – thanks to the Austrian resort’s 26th annual Shapes In White snow carving competition, this year benefitting from an abundance of snow in this snow pocket of the Alps.
Nine pairs of international snow sculptors each worked with the elements to create masterpieces from 10m piles of fresh snow.
“We are impressed each and every year by the creative interpretations of our slogans. This year, too, the artists have excelled with their snow heroes and made it very difficult for us to choose,” commented Paznaun-Ischgl Tourist Director Andreas Steibl.
But choose they did and all three top places went to Italian artists Ivo Piazza and Reiner Kasslatter; Lorenz Demetz and Thomas Mussner; and Ivan Holzknecht and Armin Rifesser.
