Snowy Times Down Under

Australian ski areas have had a challenging start to the 2024 season with limited snowfall to date meaning all have only been able to open less than half of their slopes so far.

However there is a promising sign this week with up to 50cm fresh snow falling after a dry fortnight or so and up to 50cm in total expected by the weekend.

“If you’ve been feeling the cold, it’s nice and chilly here at Falls Creek. It’s a high of -3 degrees today so rug up and get out here on the slopes” said Betony Pitcher, Falls Creek Field Marketing Manager. “We’ve had freezing cold temperatures with this polar blast and it’s been snowing all day and all night and there’s plenty of fun here at Falls Creek.”

The resort has had 10cm of snow so far with over 51cm forecast to fall this week thanks to the Antarctic polar blast hitting parts of Australia.

Despite the chilly conditions, skiers and snowboarders are welcoming the incoming blizzard, with plenty of fresh powder turns to be had across the week.
