It’s snowing heavily in the Alps down to low elevations.
Megeve, one of the lower-lying ski resorts, reported more than 20cm (8″) by lunchtime (pictured below) with the snow still falling.
Italy’s Bardonecchia, pictured top, was another area reporting snow down to resort level. That’s good news for skiers heading to the Alps later this month as while conditions above 1500-1800m are pretty good already, lower valleys had not seen much snowfall to date. Le Grand Bornand, pictured below, is also getting dumped on.
Les Menuires, pictured below, is one of a number of ski areas opening for the season this weekend.
“With our opening this weekend, it’s the perfect time to get some fresh snow. We are ready and excited for the season ahead!” said Tourist Office director Marlene Giacometti.
The snowfall is expected to continue through the weekend and impact a wide area. Chatel is pictured below.
