Conditions have turned decidedly wintery in the Alps and the Pyrenees as we enter the final week of October.
The Aiguilles d’Arves above La Toussuire in the French ski region of Les Sybelles is pictured above, and below, fresh snowfall at Glacier 3000 near Gstaad in Switzerland this afternoon (Tuesday 24 October).
There are currently about eight glacier ski areas already open in the Alps, more than half of them in the Austrian Tirol region. It’s here that the FIS Alpine Skiing 23-24 World Cup Tour is due to begin this coming weekend at Solden.
There area also four ski areas open in Scandinavia, where snow has also been falling. They include Ruka and Levi (pictured) in Lapland.
There was also fresh snowfall on Scottish peaks at the end of Storm Babet at the weekend, after all the rain and gales. Cairngorm is pictured below.
Resorts in the Pyrenees are also reporting fresh snow on their higher slopes this week. This is Cerler in Spain.
