It is a homage to the fact that freestyle skiing is so internationally popular that the Sochi 2014 Games will see the sport introduced for the first time.
Pioneered by such athletes as Candid Thovex and J.P Auclair, the world of freestyle skiing has undergone a huge surge in popularity over the past decade, and it will be one of the most anticipated competitions of the Games.
The event sees skiers perform huge tricks over a series of rails, boxes and jumps.
At this year’s event Britain has a serious chance of picking up a gold medal. James ‘Woodsy’ Woods has already won two X-Games silver medals, and is currently ranked number two in the world by the FIS.
While in the women’s discipline, Katie Summerhayes will be hoping to bring back a medal from the slopestyle event. She will be up against the likes of Tiril Sjastad Christiansen of Norway and Germany’s Lisa Zimmermann however.
The men’s slopestyle finals will be held on Thursday 13 February, and the women’s finals on Tuesday 11 February.
