The only ski area open at the start of July in Switzerland is Zermatt, Europe’s highest ski area and a year-round ski destination.
The good news is there’s been fresh snow in the past few days for the first time in several months. Snow depths are reported to be 50cm deep with nine lifts open accessing the glacier ski runs.
Cervinia, just over the international border in Italy has also just reopened for summer skiing and boarding.
Zermatt’s other famous ski neighbour, Saas Fee, will re-open for summer skiing and boarding too and a nine month ski season that continues through too on the second full weekend of July. It will stage a full re-opening celebration.
The only other snowsports destination in Switzerland ha’s open is up at the Jungfraujoch, Europe’s highest rail station, above Grindelwald and Wengen where there’s a small summer snow play area.
