Although the current ski season has come to an end at most ski areas in the northern hemispheres, it’s in full swing at one of the world’s cult destinations.
Located 200km north of the Arctic circle is Riksgränsen, one of the world’s most northerly ski destinations is open through May, then re-opens over the spring bank holiday weekend.
The northerly ski area is famed for its comparatively low cost heli-skiing terrain in an area the size of Holland, and also offers the surreal experience of skiing under the midnight sun, with the lifts running after midnight, from mid-May.
Due to its extreme northerly latitude the ski season starts in March when the climate is more temperate and the days longer.
It’s possible to create your own trips but travel can be complicated and tour operator Ski Safari organise inclusive holidays. Prices start from £1,199 per person based on two sharing which includes seven nights with bed and breakfast accommodation at the three star Riksgränsen Hotel as well as return flights and transfers.
