Ski Slopes and Lifts for Children
Families are a very big part of Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau and the region has exceptional facilities for a great time on the slopes. But more than that this is a wonderful place just to spend quality time together, have fun and reset.
The Ski Juwel operates two ski kindergartens for children, and there are five ski schools specialising in teaching children to choose from, with the instructors at each happy to show visitors of all ages and all abilities, how to ski or snowboard, or to improve their technique if they already know.
There are two terrain parks in the region as well, the Snowpark Alpbachtal and the new Snowpark Schatzberg. Both have a range of challenges for differing ability levels but including easy beginner lines with small jumps and obstacles for those just finding their feet for park life.
On the slopes, besides the parks, there are lot of slopes that are perfect for families with young children and some that have been specially tailored for an extra bit of fun for kids.
Kinderland Juppi Do located at the Reitherkogelbahn bottom station in Reith im Alpbachtal is a paradise for snow loving children. There are themed tracks and playful obstacles that together make learning to ski lots of fun.
The Ski Juwel is home to numerous beginners’ areas and children’s pistes making the area popular with families and beginners.
In the wider area, firstly on the Alpbachtal side, the Acherfeldlift (lift W15 on the map) located in Inneralpbach, is situated between the Pöglbahn and Alpbachtal-Wildschönau connecting lift bottom stations and gives access to a 100m long run that kids love for learning skills in an easy and enjoyable way.
In Reith im Alpbachtal the conveyor lift Juppi Do (R5 on the map) and the Brandachlift (lift R4) take skiers and riders to short runs with a gentle gradient leading down to the valley. In addition, the new children’ ski paradise “Juppi Do” offers the perfect conditions for the first steps on skis.
From here novice skiers can head up to the Reitherkogelbahn top station and practice turns on the blue run down to the Hochlift (R3).
For the first real turns the slopes up high on the Wiedersberger Horn are the place to practice. The best way to start off is to take the ski route leading from the Wiedersbergerhornbahn top station along the ski route to the Kohlgrubenlift (W7). The lift provides a separate children’s track bringing kids back to the top. The blue run to the Muldenlift (W10) is perfect, but should the run prove to be too „tame“ there is the Hornbodenlift (W8) further down the hill.
The more experienced can descend the blue or even the red pistes to the Gmahbahn (W4) or continue on to the Wiedersbergerhornbahn middle station. Kids love the “Kids Run” next to piste 46b with its fun figures, waves and steep curves.
In the village centre of Alpbach itself is the Böglerlift (D1) next to the Congress Centrum is great for for beginners as well.
On the Wildschönau side there are beginners’ slopes with short, easy-to-ride lifts situated next to the Markbachjochbahn bottom station in Niederau. It’s the perfect area for smaller children. The “Märchenwiesenabfahrt” offers exciting descents for the more experienced skiers and can easily be reached via the Tennladen beginner’s lift (M11).
In Oberau the Pfarrfeldlift (O2) and the Schießhüttllift (O3) are located in the village centre and perfect lifts for beginners, with almost flat gentle slopes and fun activities offered. The Roggenboden here is home to ski lifts and slopes which are ideal for children and at night these slopes are floodlit foir those with the energy to keep skiing into the evening!
At Schatzberg a special children’s and beginners’ area is served by the Koglmooslift (S8), another beginner’s lift (S8) and provides large, wide gentle slopes with loads of space for mastering turns, located next to the Schatzbergbahn middle station.
