The 1988 Olympic performance of Eddie the Eagle, recently immortalised in a Hollywood film and TV show The Jump, has got more and more people wondering if they should give ski jumping a try.
Although The Jump is filmed in a village called Natters, just outside Innsbruck, where the ski jump is not open to the public, you can in fact try this thrilling discipline elsewhere in Tirol.
In the Hohe Salve region of the Kitzbüheler Alps, wannabe ski jumpers receive expert training and full guidance before launching themselves off the 15-metre jump into the air and attempting to fly as far as possible.
The ski jumping centre in Wörgl has five ski jumps that meet the international FIS standard, with three smaller ski jumps (15, 30 and 40 metres) and a larger one (60 metres).
“Ski Jumping for Everyone” is available at a cost of €50pp (£43) for three hours; to book, email [email protected] or call +43 664 34 20 663.
