Here’s our weekly guide on Where To Ski or Board this week as we enter April 2016.

Most ski areas remain open as we enter April but some big names close this weekend, including Jackson Hole, pictured above, which closes this Sunday April 3rd despite receiving some of the most snow in the past week.

Conditions are good in most of the world’s ski regions. There’s been some fresh snow in the Alps and Pyrenees, as well as Western North America, and conditions remain good on groomed trails.

Austria

Where To Ski or Board This Week Ending April 9th, 2016

Austria got some of the best snowfalls in the Alps last week with mos areas receiving 10-20cm and some as much as 40cm of snow this week.  Most areas are in good shape on the groomed pistes.  Alpbach is pictured above.

France

Where To Ski or Board This Week Ending April 9th, 2016

Mostly sunny days on French pistes this week, but 5-15cm of snow was reported in the french Alps, and up to 20cm down in the Pyrenees.  Snow depths are good across the country as we enter April.

Italy

Where To Ski or Board This Week Ending April 9th, 2016

Almost no fresh snow in Italy this week, only La Thuile (pictured above) reported 10cm of new snow earlier in the week – and it also has Italy’s deepest base at 3m/10 feet.  But here too conditions look good across the country on the groomed pistes.

Switzerland Where To Ski or Board This Week Ending April 9th, 2016

Swiss snow depths remain good up top but are getting thin at resort level in some resorts – only 5cm/a couple of inches at Zermatt, Grindelwald and Gstaad for example and nothing left at Adelboden and Wengen. But as with the rest of Europe on slopes conditions are good for April and many areas have had a few inches of fresh snow this week too.

Pyrenees

Where To Ski or Board This Week Ending April 9th, 2016

There’s been fresh snow in the Pyrenees, particularly on the French side where Cauterets reported 30cm of fresh snow this week, the most in the country. Bases are good across the region – up to 2.5m on the Spanish side and some big snowfalls are forecast for the coming week.

Scotland

Where To Ski or Board This Week Ending April 9th, 2016

Glenshee has joined The Lecht and been forced to close for lack of fresh snow and thawing of snow cover. The other three centres are operational however including Glencoe (above), Cairngorm and Nevis Range.

Scandinavia

Where To Ski or Board This Week Ending April 9th, 2016

A few flurries of fresh snow this week in Scandinavia, especially at Narvik up north n Norway, pictured above. Bases remain good across the region, where there’s 4-5 weeks of the season left at most areas although base depths are starting to decrease as the afternoon thaw takes hold.

Eastern Europe

Where To Ski or Board This Week Ending April 9th, 2016

It’s the last week or two of the season at Eastern European resorts so no new snow isn’t a big problem. Bases remain OK – 30-60cm across the area.

Canada

Where To Ski or Board This Week Ending April 9th, 2016

There’s been moderate snowfall across Canada over the past week.  The were up to 20cm at BC in the West but there was also 10cm in Quebec in the East. The deepest snow base remains at over 3m in BC at resorts including Fernie and Whistler and up to a foot of snow is forecast for the week ahead.

USA

Where To Ski or Board This Week Ending April 9th, 2016

Up to 75cm of fresh snow has been reported this week in Western States including Colorado, Montana, Utah and Wyoming. But there’s also been fresh snow in the East including at Stowe, above.  Some major areas begin closing this weekend including Jackson Hole despite it receiving 60cm of snow this week. Alyeska is now reporting a 520cm base, the deepest in North america, overtaking Mammoth’s 510cm.
