About half of Italy’s ski centres have closed for winter 16-17 including most of those in the Dolomites, which had very little natural snow so winter never really happened, although thankfully they were saved by snowmaking.

The winter has been more ‘normal’ in the Alps to the West and here most areas are still open to this weekend and in a few cases like Cervinia, which still has Italy’s deepest bae, now down to 1.8m/6 feet, the slopes will stay open in to May.
There’s not been any of the fresh mid-April snow reported in other parts of Europe in Italy so far however. Only Macugnaga has reported about 10cm of snow.
But at most still-open Italian ski areas its classic spring skiing conditions with the best snow high up and between around 10am and 1pm each day.
