Italy’s ski season to date has seen something of a divided nation with much more snow landing in the West of the country in November and much less in the Dolomites to the East, but it has been cold enough to create some great conditions with the huge snowmaking arsenal over there fired up and thousands of kilometres of piste able to open thanks to that technology.
In the past few days it has been Italy that has seen the most of the fresh snow that has arrived in Europe after a month long wait. The first resorts to post serious snow accumulations over the past few days included Limone in the west with 45cm of snow in 24 hours and Prato Nevoso (pictured above and top) which got a foot (30cm) of fresh snow in the same period and has had 80cm in 72 hours – by far the most in Europe.
