As we enter November nine ski areas are already open in Austria – more than any other country in the world.

The other good news is that it has been snowing, regularly, through October, so along with powder days on some of those already-open glacier areas, snow bases have been building on higher slopes at resorts due to open from mid-November.

These include Obergurgl (16 November) with other resorts with a reputation for reliable snow cover such as Ischgl and the Arlberg opening at the end of the month.

Currently conditions are good already on the eight open glaciers where up to 38km of runs (Hintertux) are open and bases are up to 1.4m (Solden – pictured above during one of the October snow storms).  The Kitzsteinhorn is pistured below.

Kitzbuhel has also opened already using snow stockpiled from last season.
