Ski Authors Caroline Elliott and Kimberley Kay will be speaking at National Snow Week in October 2023, at both the National Snow Show in Birmingham and London Snow Show.
The ‘How to keep your family safe and enjoy the mountains’ sessions on the Snow Skills Cabin stage will provide valuable insights for snow users to ensure safe and enjoyable times on the slopes. Caroline and Kimberley will be sharing advice, sharing notable snowsport experiences and taking questions from the audience in this interactive session. Caroline will be accompanied by her beautiful flat coated retriever, working dog Källa.
Caroline Elliott, author of children’s book Fjord’s Mountain Mission, and Kimberley Kay, author and illustrator of Ski A to Z – An Illustrated Introduction To Skiing will be talking on the Sunday at each show (15th October in Birmingham (NEC), 22nd October in London (ExCel).
The authors will share top tips and advice helping people be prepared and informed, which can be applied on trips to the mountains, with the underlying ethos that prevention is better than cure.
Caroline’s experiences as mountain rescue/ ski patroller, avalanche dog handler and trained avalanche explosives operative, inform her book and her outreach work in schools and organisations. Caroline is passionate about mountain safety.
Caroline said, “Being aware and informed of the risks, and steps to take to minimise the opportunities to be in the way of danger, can ensure that snow resort users and snow patrol staff can safely enjoy their mountain experiences. Work to inform younger generations gives them a great foundation for a lifetime of snow based experiences. Fjord’s legacy is helping people across the globe to learn about mountain safety through the book Fjord’s Mountain Mission.”
With Fjord’s Mountain Mission now published in French, German and Swedish, and soon in Norwegian and Japanese, the book is informing and making mountain use safer for its readers and their families.
Ski A to Z, the popular ‘fun for all ages’ book written and illustrated by Kimberley Kay, is proving popular internationally with over half of the books sold in the United States, and has been getting great reviews with skiers in Australia during their winter season. ‘Like an all knowing ski buddy’ the information and advice in the book is made accessible through informative and fun illustrations, helping new and novice skiers to understand, learn, and calm fears or concerns that they may have.
Since Ski A to Z was published, Kimberley has developed a range of wall art, greeting cards and fabric/ wallpaper designs all with her fun snowsport characters and themes. Kim’s creates under the brand of Inspire by Kim.
Kimberley said, “The first Ski A to Z book arrived with me on the eve of the 2021 National Snow Show and since then it has been helping people across the globe to have a more informed, and therefore enjoyable, start in skiing. It was great to meet everyone at the 2022 show and I’m pleased to be returning to the stage for the 2023 event. It will be great to team up with Caroline, share advice and stories, and answer questions where people are keen to know more. The information will help people to reduce their risks and ensure everyone has a great time on the snow.”
The session will be supported by partners including Dick’s Ski & Board Store – The North’s Largest Independent Ski & Snowboard Store, Ortovox, Wave Case and Ruffwear.
