Lightning may never strike twice, but it seems that possums can, as power at The Remarkables ski area in New Zealand was cut for a second time this month on Tuesday evening, leaving it unable to operate on Wednesday until power was restored. A possum attack is believed to be the most likely cause.
The possum attacks, unfortunately fatal for the hapless possums, initially lead to a loss of power on June 12th when two possums damaged power cables before being electrocuted. The centre was unable to open on the subsequent powder day.
Another dead possum was recovered on a power pole on Wednesday after the latest power outage.
Management at The Remarkables are now looking at ways to increase existing ‘Possum proofing’ of power poles following its failure to stop the possums from climbing the poles and killing themselves.
