UK ski charity Ski 4 Cancer is calling for skiers from across Europe in an attempt to set a new World Record on Thursday the 9th of March 2017 alongside ski jumping legend Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards. The challenge will be to descend the height of Mount Everest (29,029ft) as one large group and raise funds for Ski 4 Cancer at the same time.
The challenge will take place in the Austrian ski resort of Saalbach on Thursday 9 March, one of the largest ski areas in the world with 270km of piste.
Andy Hayward, Trustee at Ski 4 Cancer said, “We’re looking for 500 skiers from across Europe who want to become World Record holders. In this unique event, skiers from lots of different countries will be united by a disease which affects us all irrespective of nationality. Skiing the height of Mount Everest in one day is a tough challenge though, even for advanced skiers like Mr Eddie Edwards!”
“We missed out on getting the record last year by just a few skiers so this year we have some unfinished business. With a number of entertainment zones on the course this year, this winter’s event is going to be a lot of fun and there’ll be prizes for the best dressed skiers!” Andy continued, adding,
“We all know someone who has been affected by cancer so if you’ve yet to book your ski trip for this year, why not join us. Become a World Record holder and help people living with cancer at the same time. We can even help with accommodation including transfers with prices starting at just £300.”
Ski 4 Cancer was set up by a group of keen skiers and snowboarders who have all lost a close relative or friend to cancer. The charity provides a range of alpine respite holidays for families living with cancer, Ski 4 Cancer gives families something to look forward to at the end of treatment schedules and also makes grants to palliative care centres and supports research.
