Skiers and snowboarders who arrived dressed as Santa were allowed to ski for free at resorts in Switzerland and the USA at the weekend.
At Verbier 1,200 Santas arrived on Saturday, many of them travelling on a specially chartered Santa Express train from Geneva.
All were allowed to travel and ski for free so long as they were in Santa costumes. It was the third year the resort had staged the event which included free wine, croissants and raclette through the day and prize draws.
At 3pm there was a mass singing of the Village people’s YMCA.
Across the Atlantic nearly 200 people arrived dressed as Santa at Sunday River ski area in Maine for the much longer established 18th annual Santa Sunday which also raises funds for local good causes by asking participants to donate at least $15 to local good causes – nearly $3000 was raised.
