Ski resorts across the Alps are reporting bumper visitor numbers at present.
Saas Fee in Switzerland, famously a car-free resort, was among areas reporting it’s car parks were completely full this morning by 10am and advised that anyone else arriving by car that they would be turned away.
New Year week is usually one of the busiest, if not the busiest of the season, but this year the good snowfalls in November and December, building bases at many resorts then followed by great sunny weather conditions since Christmas, appears to have drawn even more people to the mountain than usual.
“There are no more parking spaces available in Saas-Fee!” a spokesperson for the resort said this morning, “All 2,800 parking spaces are occupied, further arrivals will not be admitted to the car park. We therefore ask you kindly to arrive only by bus. Which is more fun and also more environmentally friendly.”
