About Saalbach Hinterglemm

Saalbach Hinterglemm is the second most popular destination in Austria (after the capital Vienna), Saalbach Hinterglemm offers some of the country’s most exciting skiing and was the location for the 1991 Alpine World Championships. The resort was an Alpine village in its own right long before the advent of skiing.

Saalbach sits within the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. This is not only one of the largest ski areas in Austria, with an extensive range of exciting activities, international flair and breath-taking natural landscapes, but it is also the coolest ski area in the Alps. The Skicircus offers all winter sports fans ultimate fun in the snow: 270 kilometres of pistes comprising of 140 km blue runs for beginners, 112 km red runs for intermediates and 18 km of black runs for the more advanced.

With 70 lifts and more than 60 cosy mountain huts, various Snowparks, flood-lit pistes, toboggan runs and a Freeride Park, the region is one of the most diverse ski areas in Austria. SkiMovie-, Speed and Racetracks, Snow Trails and Snowtubing provide fun-packed action. What’s more, there are many other additional offers such as Snowmobil-City, Flying Fox XXL, as well as the Baumzipfelweg (Treetop Trail) and Timoks Coaster.

In terms of Saalbach Hinterglemm themselves, Saalbach is marginally the larger (and louder) of the two villages, originally 4km (two and a half miles) apart, which have grown so much that they now almost meet in the middle. The chalet style hotels at Saalbach with carved wooden balconies cluster around the custard-yellow church steeple.

At Hinterglemm the valley floor is broarder and the hotels larger, more up market and with the village itself more widely spead out. The two villages are neighbours and now marketed as one resort in the picturesque Glemmtal Valley, a ‘dead end’ valley which offers skiing on all sides and numerous access points to the slopes.
