Plans have been announced for a new 2km long ski slope in the Tatra mountains of Slovakia.
The plans for the ski run, which resort operator Tatra Mountain Resorts hopes to create at one of the country’s leading resorts, Jasná, are now with the Slovakian government’s Environment Ministry for assessment.
The new run, which would be about 40 metres wide, would takec about six months to build and cost about €1.5 million to create, according to the resort Tatra Mountain Resorts.
The company says its objective in creating the new run is to make the western area of its ski slopes easier to access for less-experienced skiers.
It is unsure when the slope would be completed, as this depends on winning permission to construct it, and the time it takes to get permission if they do. Creating the slope would require clearing trees and rocks and to offset this environmental impact the resort is suggesting a number of mitigating and compensating measures including forest re-growth.
Jasná currently has 41 ski slopes with a combined length of more than 50 kilometres on both sides of Mount Chopok.
