Hit the Heights of Sun Peaks

The delightful ski-in/ski-out village of Sun Peaks has long appealed to families, with its reputation for a friendly, relaxed welcome, its compact core of shops and restaurants and its diverse terrain across three mountains with runs that filter back down to the village. These assets have also made the resort a popular spot for novices and intermediates looking for a hassle-free holiday. It is certainly a firm favourite with clients of Frontier Ski, many of whom return year after year.

And they have much to keep them going; over the past two years the resort has been broadening its appeal and has added terrain which more advanced skiers and snowboarders will find of interest. Tod Mountain, the highest of the resort’s three mountains, has always been home to some tough slopes, but last winter saw the previously backcountry Gils area brought in to the domain, offering some steeps and ungroomed powder runs to whet the appetite of those with a thirst for adventure.

Across the valley from Tod lies the Morrisey peak, traditionally known for its rolling, tree-lined blue cruisers, but last year saw these added to with the addition of two new black diamond trails. This area of slopes on West Morrisey is known as the Laundromat area, with amusingly named trails such as ‘Tumble Dry’ and ‘Static Cling’, and will see two more advanced trails this coming winter season.

These expansions are part of a carefully managed environmentally respectful development, something of which Sun Peaks is proud, and they have taken the resorts terrain to 4,270 acres, making it the second largest ski area in Canada.

With the expansion broadening the attractions on the slopes, along with plenty on offer off them too, from tubing to snow-mobiling, ice skating to sleigh-rides, there is much for visitors to enjoy. Add in some comfortable accommodation at the foot of the slopes and a variety of dining options along with laid back après and you can see why a visit to Sun Peaks should appeal to all.

For this winter, guests of Frontier Ski will also benefit from FREE nights in many of the luxury accommodations they offer, as well as FREE skiing for kids, and discounted lift passes and rentals for all.
