We caught up with GB Snowboarder Aimee Fuller about money, favourite food and the season ahead.

My season is underway. Whoop, whoop. Starting with the Dew Tour in Breckenridge, I have just competed in my first event of the season, finishing in the top 8 ! Colorado is a great spot to ride before the winter officially kicks off in Europe. My next destination is France and then I head to the European Open in Laax Switzerland, a quick hop from Absolut Park, Flachau Austria to China for the World Snowboard Championships later in the season. I will be ramping up the air miles that’s for sure.

I spend lots of time on the road, in planes, on buses and trains and I am aware of so many things. How to pack light, where to stay, how to find a healthy food spot on the mountain. It’s also really important how I manage my money. Like most International and Olympic athletes, whether it’s winter or summer sports we get to hang out and travel to some amazing places. However, it comes at a cost. So the more I can conserve, the more places I can go, and the less I have to worry.

If you have seen my latest set up, one of the stickers on my boards is Caxton FX. Friends often ask who this is and what they do. They save me a lot of money ! It’s really cool actually I use the pre-paid currency card, which means that I can pay for food on the mountain, excess travel charges, hotel accommodation basically everything and anything I need to spend money on abroad, the good thing is there’s no ATM fees, they have good rates and I can load it from the app on my phone straight to my card!

It’s not just the everyday use. When I win events, I get paid in the local currency, normally in US dollars or Euro’s. I ring someone directly, and my money is transferred easily and securely back to English pounds. All ready for me to carry on spending. I have to say I am a bit of a foodie, so I like to invest my money in good food!  If you want to find out my favourite food spots in mountain towns around the world, like Cuppa Joes in Breckenridge, then head to my and Chemmy Alcott’s Secret Snow Guide for top recommendations.
