Whistler has just opened for the 16/17 winter season and is having the most incredible snowfall! Since opening day on the 24 November, there’s been over 20cm of snowfall every day. Some are questioning if there’s such a thing as too much powder snow?! We’re firmly in the no camp!
If that doesn’t tempt you to jump on the next available flight to British Columbia, then here’s 5 reasons why you should ski in Whistler with Canadian Affair this winter:
1. It’s the biggest ski resort in North America
The resort is spread over two mountains – Whistler and Blackcomb meaning there are miles upon miles of awesome slopes to enjoy. There’s over 200 marked runs spread out over both mountains and there’s a great mix for all levels from the experienced skier to those popping on their skis for the first time. The resort is also regarded as having one of the best ski and snowboard schools in North America so it’s the perfect place to start your love affair with the slopes!
2. The buzz of the resort
One thing the team at Canadian Affair loves about Whistler is just how awesome the atmosphere in the village is. Life is easy there, the hardest decision you ever have to make is which mountain to hit up first! Everything in the village, including the vast majority of the hotels are close to the slopes so you never have to lug your equipment far. And at the end of the day, as you reluctantly leave the mountains, you don’t have to venture far to chill out.
3. Epic views from the Peak-2-Peak
While the Peak-2-Peak Gondola is effectively a mode of transportation the views are worth the trip to Whistler in itself. Officially noted in the Guinness World Records as the longest and highest lift in the world, it’s an experience all on its own. For 11 minutes, you’ll be mesmerised by the views over the entire valley and surrounding mountains, and when you get off, you’ve got a whole other mountain to explore and enjoy.
4. Awesome après
Whistler Village itself is magical! After a busy day on the slopes, the village provides the perfect place to unwind. From great shops and cafes on Village Stroll to lots of choice for an evening out, there are so many great restaurants, bars and pubs to choose from.
5. Plenty of places to soothe aching muscles
Skiing and snowboarding is hard work so it’s important to relax after a full on day on the slopes. And Whistler really delivers on this too! A lot of the hotels have brilliant hot tubs, saunas and pools to relax in. A few of the Canadian Affair favourites being the Fairmont Chateau Whistler with 3 hot tubs, the Cascade Lodge’s soothing pool and the Westin Resort and Spa’s eucalyptus steam rooms.
