Peaks of Perfection

Sun Peaks is quietly becoming a ‘go-to’ destination. The resort in British Columbia, Canada, has always been known for its snowy slopes, attractive village and its friendly welcome, but recent additions to the ski area have enhanced its reputation and increased its appeal.

Now visitors can enjoy over 4,200 acres of terrain, across three peaks that surround the village, making the resort Canada’s second largest ski area. Novices will enjoy the wide open green and blue runs close to the village, with intermediates able to find plenty to keep them interested, from long cruiser blue trails to single black runs that wind down through the tree covered slopes. Advanced skiers and snowboarders will discover some enjoyable double black trails, with steep pitches and glades too. There is also the former back-country terrain of Gils, which came ‘in-bounds’ a couple of years ago and offers scope for an off-piste experience.

Après ski is relaxed, with visitors able to stroll through the village and discover a number of restaurants, offering a variety of dining options from pizza to sushi, and several cafes and bars. Guests can also enjoy sedate sleigh rides and also a fondue dinner with evening ski descent.

For anyone in need of adrenalin fix there is dog-sledding and snowmobiling on offer. This season also sees the opening of a new ice rink to add to the resort’s other attractions, which include tubing and winter Segway tours. One further highlight is a visit to nearby Kamloops for truly Canadian experience – a Kamloops Blazers’ Ice Hockey game.

Set around the ski through village core, at the foot of the slopes, much of the accommodation is ski-in/ski-out and includes a choice of first-class hotels, condominiums and town homes.

Many visitors who have discovered the resort return for more of this fine, friendly destination, which offers so much on and off the slopes. With its modest village and its extensive slopes, it remains uncrowded, so even with its new terrain and attractions, this go-to destination remains joyously pleasing to arrive at and difficult to leave.

For the 2016-17 season, guests of Frontier Ski can save up to 25% on their stay, or receive FREE nights, as well as FREE skiing for kids, and discounted lift passes and rentals for all.
