Pole Position On The Pistes

Whether you’re an early riser or a natural night owl, there’s something about mornings in the mountains that is truly special.  In the Austrian resort of Obertauern, the morning sun rises over one of the snowiest resorts in the Alps. Here, a unique position in the Tauern Mountains means you’re all but guaranteed fantastic snow, while a wide variety of pistes and state-of-the-art ski lifts will put a smile on your face from first tracks to last.

And this winter in Obertauern, it’s all about making these first tracks the most spectacular you’ve ever experienced.

Let’s face it, there are few better feelings than cutting through freshly prepared pistes before anyone else. Unfortunately, for most of us, the only way to ever achieve this is to battle our way to the front of the lift queue and hope that no one overtakes us on our way to the fresh stuff.

However, in Obertauern, fighting over first tracks is now a thing of the past. Here, you can enjoy the perfectly groomed slopes all to yourself, with only the sunrise for company. Exclusive first access to the mountain, guaranteed empty slopes to enjoy all to yourself and a delicious Alpine breakfast to finish it all off? We can’t think of any better way to start a day …

All sounds good but you’re worrying about having to wake at an absurd hour? Never fear! The First.Track experience meets at the very respectable time of 7.30am and still guarantees you at least a full hour of morning skiing on what can only be described as your own private mountain.

This is a morning truly unlike any other you will have had on the ski slopes – the intense, peaceful silence, the magnificent panoramic views, gloriously lit by the day’s first rays of sun. That smile on your face? It just gets bigger and bigger.

You’d be hard pressed to find a better spot for such an experience. Obertauern is one of the most reliable spots in the Alps for snow-sure winters, with a reputation for deep powder and pristine pistes. A high-altitude location and unique weather systems allow the season to run longer in Obertauern than in most other ski resorts, with the final First.Track experience taking place on 23 April 2020! If you truly want to enjoy as much time on the slopes as possible this winter, Obertauern is the place to be!

During the morning, you’ll be accompanied by experienced locals who will help you find the best runs to explore, as well as (on certain occasions) by a skiing celebrity or two! You will also receive a seriously skier-friendly goodie bag, an Ortovox Trad 18 backpack with an Ortovox Wonderwool Beanie and an Obertauern SIGG bottle to aid your adventures.

As the lifts begin to open fully for the day and the slopes start to fill with keen skiers looking to get their very own first tracks (little do they know you got there first!), it’s the perfect time for you to enjoy a little respite.

You’ll be served an exclusive Almdudler breakfast experience at one of Obertauern’s best on-slope eateries, traditional mountain huts that will serve up a delicious breakfast of Salzburg specialties. The cosy warmth, hot coffee and sweet pastries will be the perfect way to top off the best morning’s skiing and will provide you with ample opportunity to discuss your experiences and adventures with your fellow skiers. Or you can share your favourite pictures with your friends back home, who are sure to be filled with envy before even getting out of bed!
