Following the launch of classic Star Wars inspired kids skiwear and gear (who can forget the R2D2 ski helmet?) as well as adult boards by Burton, Columbia Sportswear have also moved into Star Wars ski clothing, by launching a new selection of jackets.
Rather than take the latest movies as inspiration though, Columbia have put their focus in to three limited-edition jackets inspired by iconic characters in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, which was released 37 years ago. In fact to commemorate the 1980 release of the film, Columbia say only 1,980 jackets in each of the three styles has been produced.
Inspired by the costumes worn by Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker, the collection is named after the Rebel’s secret base on ice planet Hoth.
“In developing the Echo Base collection, Columbia’s designers worked closely with Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media to ensure that every detail on the jackets is authentic and true to the classic film,” a Columbia Sportswear statement reads.
The collection includes the Leia OrganaTM and Luke SkywalkerTM Echo Base jackets as well as the Han SoloTM Echo Base Parka.
The company says the jackets are individually numbered and contain several references to Star Wars and the characters who wore them. They are also constructed with Columbia’s “Tested Tough” promise and delivers the brand’s industry-leading technologies to ensure that they stand up to the freezing conditions on planet Hoth, or other galaxies closer to home.
The jackets, priced at £360 each, will be available in limited quantities on Columbia European websites and at Columbia Sportswear on Kensington High St in London from 8th December.
The London store is also running a launch event from 9am to noon tomorrow morning with free breakfast to all and prizes for those buying jackets. Arriving in Star Wars costume is optional.
