A new £15 million leisure centre currently under construction at Barnstaple in North Devon will feature an indoor conveyor ski machine.
Work on the new Tarka Leisure Centre began just before the pandemic began. It is being funded by North Devon Council, Sport England and the Coastal Communities Fund.
The conveyor slope will be a top-of-the-range SkiMachine by Alpine Engineering, the Netherlands based company which has supplied hundreds of machines to locations around the world.
Due to open in March the Tarka Leisure Centre will also feature a 25m eight-lane competition swimming pool with movable floor, a 20m four-lane learner pool with movable floor, a sports hall with four badminton courts, a large gym, two multi-purpose exercise studios, a spinning studio with virtual experience, am indoor soft play and outdoor play area as well as a café.
Leader of North Devon Council, Councillor David Worden says: “This significant investment will create outstanding new facilities for the town and surrounding communities and there is a real sense of anticipation.”
