Three seasons after the closure of the main lift linking the satellite resort of Aminona to the skiing of Crans-Montana of which it is a part, the famous Swiss ski area has announced plans to install a new Garaventa-built gondola connection between the village and the slopes to open the winter after next, 2017/18.

The new lift is being tied to further development at what Crans-Montana describes as “the future luxury touristic village of Aminona.”

“…the lift (will be built) in a strategic location for the development of the destination (and) will be an important plus for skiers, the future hotel complex and also for the development of summer tourism in the resort. It’s very good news for all fans of the area who visit in all four seasons, as well as for the development of the ski area,” a statement from Crans-Montana reads.

The last lift connection closed around 18 months ago ahead of winter 2014/15, and the lift company is reported to have already carried out major infrastructure work in the area that will host the new resort facilities and lift base.

The new gondola will be part of a planned 30 million Swiss francs investment by the lift company in the ski area over the next two years.

“The group’s strategy in this difficult climate for the tourism industry is improving the offer of the destination and its competitiveness through investment,” the resort statement concludes.
