New Austria Travel Rules – But Boosted Brits Can Still Enter Quarantine Free

New restrictions for arrivals from the UK into Austria have been announced by the country’s government.

The new rules require arriving Brits who have been double vaccinated and received their booster shot to take a PCR test and got a negative result before entering the country, a move that’s becoming increasingly common for a growing number of countries.

Currently it appears that those who have been fully vaccinated but not received their booster yet can still enter the country but will need to quarantine.

The new rules apply to arrivals from Denmark, Norway and The Netherlands as well as from the UK. The four countries have been added to Austria’s list of higher ‘risk areas’ due to high infection rates, particularly of omicron.

Other rule changes include a requirement that hospitality shuts down at 10pm, an hour earlier than the current 11pm limit, with the rule coming in to force from 27th December.

The move on travel restrictions were initially leaked by an Austrian media source earlier this week leading to a wide number of speculative reports on what would be announced ahead of the official version of the actual new restrictions being announced.

Official information on entry requirements is published here.
