Since a young teenager, Martina Diez-Routh was in love with the mountains. She started visiting the Andes Mountains (Bariloche and Las Leñas) of her native Argentina before starting to work in a ski shop to be able to fund her skiing. This took her to work and live in Crested Butte Mountain Resort, Aspen Skiing Company, Vail Resorts and Ski Portillo for many years.
Since she moved to the UK, she has been working for the Mountain Travel Symposium, the largest and longest standing B2B ski tourism industry show held annually in North America and kept on going to the mountains thanks to her job and her home in the Aosta Valley.
For the past 10 years, Martina has been a professional painter painting her beloved mountains in pastels as she loves the vibrancy of working with pigment straight on paper. This past year, she has also experimented working with oils and watercolours.
She paints mountain portraits and mountain scenes, many of them memories of her trips to the mountains. She also paints “en plein air”, or outdoors, with her pochade box and oils or pastels. These are faster painting sessions than in the studio, as the light changes a lot, and in winter, it can get very cold quickly. These experiences are great to react fast to her experiences with the outdoors.
Martina offers commissions of mountain paintings and paints pets’ portraits (in the mountains), as well as her mountain portraits and mountain landscape. What you get with one of her paintings is the expression of her passion for the great outdoors.
