More Snowfall High in The Alps

There’s been more snowfall high in the Alps, following first coverings last week, with snow in the Dolomites too.

Slopes above and 2,000m altitudes have had a thin covering of wet snow, but above 3,000m accumulations of 10-20cm have been reported.

Passo Stelvio, one of the four glacier ski areas in the Alps that are currently aiming to be open is pictured above on Monday.  The Cervinia-Zermatt summer ski area reported it received 20-30cm of fresh snowfall on its year-round slopes, Europe’s highest, last week.

Four more glacier areas, all in Austria, are scheduled to open at the end of this month or in early October for their 24-25 seasons. They include Kaunertal, which published the image below this afternoon.

The forecast is for more colder, snowier weather on high slopes in the Alps through the coming week after months of predominantly hot weather to high altitudes.
