It has been a whirlwind week for Menna Fitzpatrick and Jen Kehoe whose victory in the Downhill at the World Championship’s have made them Britain’s first ever Paralympic and World Championship gold medallists.
Due to bad weather the first leg of the super combined was doubled-up as the super G World Championship and saw Fitzpatrick and Kehoe beating Australia’s Melissa Perrine (guide: Bobbi Kelly) to win their second title in as many days. Kelly Gallagher (guide: Gary Smith) picked up her second medal of the Championships, finishing third.
A few hours later, and with the Super G times carried through to the slalom leg, Perrine was able to overhaul Fitzpatrick’s time advantage to claim the gold in the super combined. Fitzpatrick and Kehoe earned their fifth medal of the championships with silver and Gallagher and Smith picked up bronze, their third medal in 24 hours.
In the men’s standing category, James Whitley recorded his best result at this level with fifth in the super combined. The 21-year-old was tenth in the super G, then sent down the third-fastest slalom run to move five places up the leaderboard to finish just 2.09sec off the podium.
Great Britain finished the World Championships with two gold, three silver and three bronze to sit in sixth place on the medal table.
