Austria’s high altitude ski area of Obertauern in Salzburgerland famously the location for the snow scenes in the Beatles movie Help! filmed more than 50 years ago, has announced a major new lift is being installed there this summer.
The new Plattenkarbahn will be a combination of eight-seat chairs and 10-seat gondola cabins on one cable.
The Leitner built lift will ascend from a base at 1667m to a top station at 2051m, ascending 384 vertical metres over its 1095m cable length.
Travelling at 5 metres per second it will take around 4 minutes to make an ascent and the lift will have a big capacity of 3000 people per hour.
It replaces a high speed quad which according to Skiresort.info was installed in 1991.
