Just 17 years old, Madi Rowlands is part of the GB Park and Pipe Squad but despite qualifying for the Winter Olympics is unable to compete in PyeongChang due to injury.
Madi has been skiing for her whole life and made her first forays into freestyle skiing following her brother through the ski parks on family holidays. She soon began entering competitions in the UK and in 2011 she won gold in four events in her age category at the British Championships in Laax (halfpipe, slopestyle, big air, and ski cross).
Building on this success, she won the British Championships overall womens’ slopestyle event in 2013, becoming the youngest athlete ever to do so. Retaining this title in 2014, Madi Rowlands also added the halfpipe title.

When she joined the British Freeski team in 2014, she became their youngest member. However, this did not hold her back. At the 2016 Lillehammer Youth Olympic Winter Games, Rowlands became the first GB athlete to win a gold medal on snow when she took victory in the ladies ski halfpipe, before also adding a bronze in slopestyle.
While we’ll miss her in PyeongChang, we can’t wait to see what she has in store for us once she returns from injury.
